There is also a very considerable collection of hypsometrical tables, thermotnetric as.well as barometric, and tables for conversion of geographical measures of distance and surface according to the units adopted by different nations. A section of miscellaneous tables, geodetic and geographical, includes also one giving the length of time of insolation for any latitude and for any day of the year. The tables for correcting series of thermometrical observations for periodic and non-periodic variations, the former giving the hourly deviations of temperature from the mean in each month for a large number of different places throughout the world, and the latter for a smaller number of places, the deviation of the temperature of each individual month through series of years, from the average temperature of the month have not been changed. This is, perhaps, a little unfortunate, considering that since the publication of the last edition of the work, some twenty-five years ago, much material has become available for improvement of the tables of periodic variations, as well as for extension of the tables of non-periodic variations, although the giving of information of this kind was not the primary object of the work, whose value consists in the extensive series of fundamental tables which it contains.
