Review Text

Lamb is on the run from the outside world. This her account of her first attempt to let down her defences and trust someone enough to show her true self. Unfortunately that someone is Doggo, an escaped murderer, with secrets of his own. Both Lamb and Doggo never seem to get to make the important decisions about their lives. Where choices exist, they see only one possibility, which they know to be wrong, but hope that somehow, by some impossible luck, things will work out anyway. For each of them, lies are the only way to keep the inevitable cataclysm at bay, the truth is too shameful to bear and will end the respite from what they see as their deserved fate. The first person narrative places the reader in the position of a wise observer who can see the better choices Lamb might make, but also understand why Lamb cannot see them herself. Now You See Me is a very modern love story, told in the language and with the attitude of disaffected youth. Its style is likely to appeal to a young adult audience. (Kirkus UK)show more
