Excerpt from North American Free Trade Agreement; Are There Jobs for American Workers?: Hearing Before the Employment, Housing, and Aviation Subcommittee of the Committee on Government Operations, House of Representatives, One Hundred Third Congress, First Session, May 27, 1993
In Minnesota, we have lost jobs in agriculture because of the Ca nadian Free Trade Agreement. They have lost jobs in Canada. Can ada's Prime Minister is stepping down next month, I think partly because the free trade agreement is so unpopular with Canadian citizens.
When we ask the pro-nafta forces where these more and high er paying jobs will come from, they really don't have an answer. The economic models they rely on, after looking at them for some time, frankly, are really not much help.
