Review Text

Some mighty good reasons to quit smoking - more Americans die from cigarette smoking in a single year than died from battle-related injuries during ali of WW II; lung cancer gives no indication of its existence until it is very advanced - with checklists that make these excuses for not stopping sound as silly as they really are. Smoking doesn't keep you from getting fat; that cough isn't left over from a cold; you're not too addicted to stop. Cold turkey is best, says Olshavsky, and at a time when you can be out of your normal routine for a prolonged period (like on vacation). But there's a problem with this, and it's one that the author points out himself: smokers are reluctant to read about how bad their habit is for them. And it will take more than this has to offer to coerce an inveterate smoker into plowing through it, even though the author has given us what is essentially a straightforward, no-gimmick book.
