In the Night is a ballet made by New York City Ballet balletmaster Jerome Robbins to solo piano music of Chopin: Nocturne in D flat major, Op. 27, No. 1 (1835), Nocturnes in F minor and E flat major, Op. 55, Nos. 1 and 2 (1843), Nocturne in E flat major, Op. 9, No. 2 (1830-31). The premiere took place on Thursday, January 29, 1970, at the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center, with costumes by Anthony Dowell and lighting by Jennifer Tipton.
