The first two books in the Nick Smith Series. In book one a flu epidemic has wiped out 99% of the worlds population. In Great Britain there is no government. There is no Army or police force left. The power is off. The survivors are left to fight over the remaining supplies of food and water. For four years before the epidemic Nick Smith had been living off the land. Moving around the country and avoiding all contact with people. He saves a young boy from a vicious gang and his life starts to take some strange turns. Nick and the boy meet up with Beth and her two daughters at an abandoned motorway service station and he is drawn further into a situation that he had been avoiding for years-getting close to people. Beth and her two daughters have had to leave the safety of their house and they are on route to Bournemouth. They are looking for something that no longer exists-a safe place to live in this new world. In book two Nick and his friends leave Bournemouth and start traveling towards Cornwall. They continue on in their quest to find a safe place to live. Their hopes and their spirits are high in the warm summer sunshine, but all too soon they are once again faced with the reality of their situation. Nick has to fight again to save the innocent and due to an unusual set of circumstances this brings him to the attention of Simon Daniels. Simon is an ex SAS, ex Terrorist Psychopath. He is using the opportunity that the virus has created to build himself an army and an empire. Meanwhile Nick is fighting his own demons and attempting to settle down and live a peaceful life. Simon and Nick have met before though and Nick's past comes back to haunt him with disastrous consequences.
