Following the success of Rees' bestselling Auschwitz, this substantially revised and updated edition of The Nazis - A Warning from History tells the powerfully gripping story of the rise and fall of the Third Reich.

During a 16-year period, acclaimed author and documentary-maker Laurence Rees met and interviewed a large number of former Nazis, and his unique insights into the Nazi psyche and World War 2 received enormous praise.

At the heart of the book lies compelling eyewitness accounts of life under Adolf Hitler, spoken through the words of those who experienced the Nazi regime at every level of society. An extensive new section on the Nazi/Soviet war (previously published in Rees' War of the Century) provides a chilling insight into Nazi mentality during the most bloody conflict in history.

Described as one of the greatest documentary series of all times The Nazis - A Warning from History won a host of awards, including a BAFTA and an International Documentary Award.

Our customer reviews

"The author, Laurence Rees, delivers another fantastic book. I recently read 'Auschwitz, The Nazis & The Final Solution' and found it to be an extremely insightful experience. This book delivers more of the same. The author initially details how Hitler & the Nazis came to power and explains in great detail the social and economic conditions in Germany during the 1930's. The author then explains how the German forces began to expand across Europe and what that meant to the inhabitants of countries that were occupied. He then moves on to explain in great detail the invasion of the Soviet Union and the outcome of this conflict. Detailed and interesting information is given for key events during this period such as the defence of Stalingrad. Eyewitness accounts are used extensively in this book to help convey the horrific acts of violence and brutality committed by both the German and Soviet forces. I highly recommended this book for anyone that wishes to understand how the Nazi party came to power, whey the jewish population suffered so greatly under their control, why did Hitler invade the Soviet Union and what lead to the eventual defeat of the Nazis."show more
