D.: We do not feel it is working a hardship on us to file claims for our customers, and we feel that it is part of our business to see that our goods arrive in good condition, or to protect our customers in the event that a damage or loss occurs. H. C. Parker, J. W. Hilliard Co., Pipestone, Minn.: While we file claims for our customers, we do not believe in the practice. If it were just the matter of filing the claim for them and that ended the transaction until claim was paid and credit memo issued, we would consider that we could afford to render the service. However, in 50 per cent of the cases it is but a small part of the work involved. Now is the time to prepare for the l921 Convention. ARJAY DAVIES Arjay Davies, three times leader of the National Wholesale Grocers' Association will retire from the presidency in a few weeks' time--if he has his own wishes in the matter. Time has passed quickly. The annual convention is just about here again, and the membership is put to it to find a new president. We say that the Association is "put to it" advisedly. It is! It will not be easy to find a worthy successor to Arjay Davies. The presidency of the National Association requires a rare combination of ability--of abilities.
