THE GOSPEL BY MARK. The writer is called "John Mark," (Acts xii. 12, 25.) "John," (Acts xiii. 5, 13, ) "Mark," (Acts xv.3g.) Compare also Col. iv. 10; 2 Tim. iv. 11; Philemon 24. The name John was Jewish, that of Mark was Latin. At the house of his mother, Mar ', the first church in Jerusalem were accustomed to meet in the days of trial (Acts xii. 122). The distinctive feature of this Gospel is that of service, and the picture, or representation, that is here presented of the Lord, is that of the servant of GodAs in Matthew's Gospel he is seen as "the Son of Abraham," and in Luke's as "the Son of Man," and in John's as " the Son of God," so here we behold the faithful servant doing the perfect will of God.
