Not illustrated. 1899 edition. Excerpt: cheapening a hare with the shopwoman; two other figures are seen in the background. On the window-sill are a dead peahen, a fowl, and a duck; above, on the left, is hanging a birdcage; outside the shop is a cock in a basket, feeding. The lower front of the shop is elaborately decorated with a bas-relief representing some children sporting with a goat. Signed G. Dou. Purchased, Peel collection, 1871. 968. The Painter's Wife: Bust. She is in a green dress trimmed with white fur, a white chemisette, and a pearl necklace and earrings. Signed G. Dou. Wynn Ellis bequest, 1876. 1415. Supposed Portrait of Anna Maria van Schurman. Miniature; seen to the waist; three-quarter face. Clad in a brown velvet gown trimmed with white swansdown, over a chemisette of plaited linen. On her head she wears a large muslin cap. Purchased, 1894. DOU (gkrard) (continued). An old inscription on the back of the panel states that this picture is a portrait of Anna Maria van Schurman; but it will be observed that the portrait by Jan Lievens (No. 1095 m tms Collection), supposed to represent the same lady, differs in the colour of the hair, and has other points of variation which preclude the possibility of both having been painted from the same person. DXTBBELS (hkndrik). 1620 (?)--1676. Dutch School. 1462. A Sea-piece, with Shipping. Various vessels are distributed over a calm sea. On the left a barge is lying on a sandbank, with figures grouped about it. Signed on the barge-board I. H. D. Presented by Mr. Arthur Kay, 1895. DUCCIO DI BUONIN'SEGNA. 1260 (?)--1339 (?).
