The author's first children's book - but I hope not her last. Barrels of fun for young and old. * The Sun * Crime writer Val McDermid has turned her hand most effectively to her first picture book. * School Librarian * Arthur Robins's illustrations mix humour with an occasional touch of mild menace. * Independent on Sunday * Full of her characteristically wicked humour. Delightfully funny characterisations. A rollicking tale full of lusty energy. * * * * * Books for Keeps * Told in verse and superbly illustrated by Arthur Robins, it makes old age seem a lot of fun. * Independent on Sunday * Lively, jolly and colourful. * School Librarian * Highly recommended. * Guardian * An entertaining read for both boys and girls. * Bookbag * Infectiously readable... delightful. * Observer * Brilliantly illustrated, young pirate fans will love this rhyming tale of a swashbuckling grandmother. * Sunday Express * A jolly doggerel that children will love... vibrant and energetic. * Birmingham Post * Aided by gloriously vivid pictures. * Primary Times * Enormous fun, rollicking along with great energy. * Daily Mail * Jaunty nautical fun. * Financial Times *
