My Fascination with Airplanes : Adventures of a Part Time Aviator
As a little boy, visits to Atlanta's Candler Field sparked a fascination with airplanes that has lasted a lifetime. We would go to see my mother's cousin who was a pilot for Eastern Air Transport and he would let me sit in the pilot's seat of his airplane and pretend to fly. I thought that surely pilots were superior beings. I built model airplanes hoping to build one that would actually fly. And I finally did. My goal when I grew older was to be a pilot. Turned down for military flight training due to defective color vision, I thought my life was over. Eventually I was able to get a FAA waiver and not only learned to fly but became a flight instructor. I have taught many to fly and brought them with me away from the earth.
