Description

When Sophie Sayers joins a writers' retreat on a secluded Greek island, she's hoping to find inspiration and perhaps a little adventure. Away from her rural English comfort zone, she also takes stock of her relationship with her boyfriend Hector.

But scarcely has the writing course begun when bestselling romantic novelist Marina Milanese disappears on a solo excursion to an old windmill. First on the scene, Sophie is prime suspect for Marina's murder. When a storm prevents the Greek police from landing on the island to investigate, Sophie must try to solve the crime herself - not easy, when everyone at the retreat has a motive.

As she strives to uncover the truth about Marina's fate, Sophie arrives at a life-changing decision about her own future.

Review quote

A delight from start to finish - Juliette Lawson, novelist

"Sophie's let out of the village when her boyfriend Hector books her on a writer's retreat on a Greek island, somewhere you'd think would be peaceful and productive for her to make a start on the introduction to her aunt's travel memoir. But when the star guest, a famous novelist, goes missing, and there's speculation that she might have had a hand in it, Sophie starts to wonder about whether one of the other writers might be responsible.

"The setting is ideal for a mystery - no access to the island when bad weather hits, and a houseful of writers who start to build liaisons of one kind or another. It speeds along, with excellent writing, interesting characters and wry humour. The outcome wasn't at all what I expected, which was very rewarding.

"Don't miss this new instalment in the Sophie Sayers Village Mysteries series - the change of location works brilliantly and Debbie Young's excellent handling of the story keeps you guessing all the way through."
