Description
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Mrigal carp is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Cirrhinus. Native to the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers of the Indian Subcontinent, it is extensively aquafarmed, with 463,520 t harvested in 2008.The Actinopterygii or ray-finned fishes constitute a class or sub-class of the bony fishes. The ray-finned fishes are so called because they possess lepidotrichia or "fin rays," their fins being webs of skin supported by bony or horny spines ("rays"), as opposed to the fleshy, lobed fins that characterize the class Sarcopterygii which also, however, possess lepidotrichia.
