Any wage reductions must come from taking advantage of practical starvation in labor's rank through withholding of employment and the increasing of the length of the service day. And this has been marked particularly where organizations of labor have been crushed out and upon properties where organizations of labor did not exist at the beginning of the present panic times in the Pall of 1920, and the end is not yet. Those who have, can well be charged with destruction of life necessities, and commodities. It cannot be denied. Perishable goods have been allowed to perish rather than place them upon the market. Manufactured products have been destroyed and production has been withheld in a spirit of gain and control of labor and prices. These facts are beyond denial. Extreme economy is forced upon the multitude, and under present conditions there can be but temporary revivals in manufacture and production. Add to all of this the burden of extreme taxation that was never known in the history of nations before the great world war. The only resistance of wage reduction and the only upward trend must come of reasoning and resolute application of reasoning. And this cannot be safely neglected by wage earners, and with them it must be united, deliberative reasoning. Destructive and deteriorating influences must be resisted and those influences cannot be resisted by Labor, except by associate reasoning as afforded by the trade union movement. Not only should we maintain our organizations, but we should at all times be watchful in extending their protection and influence to those yet outside of the fold.
