Description

Fans who adore Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sabrina Jeffries will savor Ashlyn Macnamara's sensual new novel, which proves that two hearts are better than one. Years ago, when Isabelle Mears was still a young miss too infatuated to know better, she surrendered her innocence to a dishonorable man. Though ruined and cast out from society, she has worked hard to shelter her illegitimate son, Jack. Having sworn off men in her quiet but dignified life, Isabelle is unprepared for the deep longing that rips through her when a handsome stranger rescues her rambunctious six-year-old from the pounding ocean surf. George Upperton is a man in trouble with debts, women, and a meddling family. He is, by all accounts, the last gentleman on earth Isabelle should be drawn to. But loneliness is a hard mistress, and caution gives way to desire . . . even though Isabelle is convinced that happiness can't be found in the arms of such a devilish rogue. Only when Jack is kidnapped does Isabelle discover the true depth of George's devotion--and how far a good man will go to fight for the woman whose love is all that matters. Our customer reviews

My review: I truly enjoy a good historical romance once and a while and Ashlyn Macnamara delivered everything I need in A Most Devilish Rogue. The plot was interesting, characters fascinating and the romance was nicely balanced with some twists and turns. Enter George, a gentleman with some destructive habits like gambling, drinking and women. When George's mistress is getting pregnant, George is taking an escape to the countryside where he hopes to find solutions to his gambling debts by playing cards. During the party George runs away from his mother, who is heavily trying to find him a suitable wife, to the beach. He spots a woman and a boy playing foolishly in the waves and when the waves become dangerous to the boy, George rescues Jack from drowning. Isabelle has been avoiding any men in her life, especially after being left into a delicate situation of raising her kid Jack alone and by herself, but after the first meeting on the beach the attraction is quite visible between them. When Jack is kidnapped, George decides to help Isabelle no matter what. The plot gets even more complicated by the past starting to haunt them. I really liked Ashlyn Macnamara's writing style: the historical settings, the plot, the characters and the dialogue. It was easy to read and the pages just disappeared and the novel ended way too quickly for my taste. I did have some questions which remained unanswered about Isabelle's past and about her relationship with her father. I also had some difficulties with connecting and liking George in the beginning, but he grew on me when the story developed. I definitely recommend A Most Devilish Rogue. It is a well written historical romance with a very good plot and with a witty dialogue.show more
