Description

Recent upheavals and rapid changes in Eastern Europe have clearly left their mark on Monika Sosnowska's work. The traces of bygone utopias and recent cultural fissures in cities like Warsaw have proven a fertile ground for the materials from which the sculptor formulates her walk-in installations--as seen in recent exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and at London's Serpentine Gallery. The digital photographs and sketches included in this book offer a selection of the impressions, ideas and notes which have influenced Sosnowska's spatial compositions. They offer fascinating insight into the ways in which the artist perceives her surroundings and conveys that perception in her sculptures. Monika Sosnowska was born in Ryki, Poland, in 1972. Since completing her studies in Amsterdam, she has been living in Warsaw. Her work has been exhibited at major international institutions, including the 52nd Venice Biennale, where she represented Poland in 2007.show more
