Review Text

This is a low-minded melodrama (Harrington doesn't usually put his head down to that extent - cf. The Jupiter Crisis, Trial) catering to lubricious as well as vicious instincts almost equally - at the beginning. This is when Frank Coffey, who has been out of jail for three years and has gotten 29,000 dollars together but has the jackpot in mind, is enlisted by a group of young revolutionaries whose pipe dreams are fed by drugs - they want to kidnap the Indian ambassador at the U.N. and ask for a million dollars. Frank falls in love with one of them - Patricia who poses for dirty pictures to feed her habit and the punk she's living with. After the grubby beginning, the story picks up a lot of traction with the heist itself and the negotiations in which nobody is clean - particularly the F.B.I. Here you'll probably be turning the pages faster than you can read them. (Kirkus Reviews)show more
