About Joyce Lankester Brisley

Joyce Lankester Brisley began writing and illustrating at an early age; when she was thirteen her first story was published in a children's magazine. Her family moved from Bexhill in Sussex to London where she studied at Lambeth Art School for two years. When she was twenty, she and her two sisters had pictures hung in the Royal Academy, but writing and illustrating stories was her real love. The creation of Milly-Molly-Mandy and her family in 1928 was immediately successful, and she went on to write and illustrate many stories about them. Joyce Lankester Brisley died in 1978.show more
