' 14. According to the regulations of the Michigan State Board of Registration in Medicine, midwives are not recognized under the medical act and have no professional or legal status in Michigan. They have therefore no right to sign a certificate of death. but all fatal cases occurring in their practice should be treated as if they occurred without the attendance of a physician, and be referred to the health ofiicer or coroner as provided for such cases. A subregistrar should not make out a permit upon a certificate signed bv an unqualified person. but should at once refer the case to the registrar in the same wav as when the certificate is incomplete.
