The patient will complain of inability to stand with comfort; has continual backache, pains down her limbs, irritation of the bladder, and general nervous disturbances. Thousands of physicians have treated, and do now treat this condition for ulccration, applying caustics, astringents, or the cautery, with none other than temporary relief. Our homompathic treatment--giving remedies for the symptoms, or making mild and healing applications to the diseased surfaces--will also give temporary relief, without increasing the lesion, as do the severcr measures; but a curc is impossible, without a proper surgical operation. And if we are treating a patient for sterility, the operation must be complete and every way successful, before we can hope to have impregnation occur. In order that the peculiar appearance of the different forms of this lesion may be readily recognized, I present a cut delineating three varieties of laceration: In my range of observation I have found the bilatcral or doublc form of laceration more common than either of the above. This may not be the experience of others. Emmet does not state which variety he considers most common. Trcatmcnt.--Before the operation most cases need a preparatory treatment. The enlarged, congested cervix can be greatly reduced by-the use of large, hot water injections, used once or twice a day. These should be used until the tenderness on pressure has disappeared. The water may be slightly medicated with Hamamelis, Calendula, Hydrastis, Iodine, or Arnica. If there is much local irritation (burning and itching), use Borax or Grindelia.
