It was named for John J. McCook, a late 19th century director of the Santa Fe Railroad and a former American Civil War officer. The railway stopped at a small station in McCook. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 square miles, of which, 2.6 square miles of it is land and 0.04 square miles of it is water.show more
