When a stranger offers her a small fortune to break into a traveling magician's wagon, Kim doesn't hesitate. Having grown up a waif in the dirty streets of London, Kim isn't above a bit of breaking-and-entering. A hard life and lean times have schooled her in one lesson: steal from them before they steal from you. But when the magician catches her in the act, Kim thinks she's done for, until he suggests she become his apprentice; then the real trouble begins. Kim soon finds herself entangled with murderers, thieves, and cloak-and-dagger politics, all while trying to learn how to become both a proper lady and a magician in her own right. Magic and intrigue go hand in hand in "Mairelon the Magician" and "The Magician's Ward", two fast-paced novels filled with mystery and romance, set against the intricate backdrop of Regency England.show more

Our customer reviews

I still don't know what initially persuaded me to first pick up this book, but whatever it was, I am incredibly grateful! Kim, the main protagonist, is a refreshing character among all other literary ones I've read, showing us another side of life in the PRE-Victorian half of the 1800's! The whole storyline is wild and at times confusing but ultimately worth it for the rewarding magic, mystery and adventure! Also if you are like me and adore a story with a touch of romance, readers will be intrigued by the strange relationship between Kim and Mairelon! All together it was an enticing and thrilling read! I would have given it 5 stars if not for the occasional confusion with the storyline! But other than that, I would definitely recommend to a hard reader as a more challenging read!show more
