Folding tables are very nice, but they are clumsy to handle when not in use, and get out of order more rapidly. The best kind of straight-edges are those which have the brass-bound edees and are made of several strips of different kinds of wood. This kind does not warp, and on account of the brass edge projecting a littl below the wood they grip the paper so that it does not slide or shift when on the board during the trimming process. If a good carpenter is convenient, a cheaper straight-edge can be obtained by having one made to order. Have it made of three pieces. It should measure about 4 inches wide with a pine strip of l inches in the centre, and two strips of walnut of i inch wide on each side. Have the underneath side of this scooped out to present a concave or cove effect, and you will then have a good straight-edge. You will have to be very careful, however, that you do not spoil it by letting your knife slip and cutting into the edge and thereby spoiling it. That is one of the great advantages of the brass-lined straightedge. You can never cut it or spoil it in that way. These straight-edges can be had from two dollars up to three dollars and a-half. If the new pattern trimmers are used a special straight-edge will have to be used with a groove contrived to hold and guide the trimmer. These trimmers are, by-the-way, about the best invention made in the shape of tools for the wallpaper business. They are so made that they are always ready and accurate, and being self-sharpening they require very little attention, all that is necessary is to clean and oil them occasionally.
