Description

Excerpt from Maryland Medical Journal, Vol. 46: A Journal of Medicine and Surgery; December 31, 1902-December 31, 1903 The close relation existing between the central nervous system and the general circulatory system, through the vaso-m'otor centre in the medulla, ' the pneumogastric nerves and the many peripheral vaso-motor nerve fibres are illustrated by the remark able changes in rate, and especially in the tension of the pulse, in a variety of pathological conditions of the cranial contents. The most striking example of this is to be found in conditions of increased intracranial pressure, such as may be produced by the growth of tumors, depressed fractures of the skull, more strik ingly, by hemorrhage, from an intracranial vessel.
