They have not got the Bible; and they do not know that God made them, and all things; and that Jesus came from heaven, to save poor sinners. So they dress up these blocks of wood and stone, and call them gods; and pray to them to take care of them, and save them. And they do many cruel, wicked things, which they think will please their gods. "But blocks of wood and stone cannot help." No. None can help but God, who made heaven and earth. Do you not wish they knew the truth? "Yes, mamma. Why do not their fathers and mothers teach them?" Because they know no better themselves. But some in these countries have been taught. And they have left off worshipping their idols, and prayed to Him, and become good and happy. There are many more good people who would be glad to go and teach the poor heathen; but there is a great deal of money wanted, to buy Bibles for them to take--and ships to go in--and food and clothes, when they get there. If every body in England would give some money, then many more of these poor heathens might be taught. "Mamma, I have got some money. May I give it to help?" Yes, you may if you like. You shall have a little box, with a slit in the lid; and when you have any money to spare, you may put it in. In time, there will be enough to buy a Bible. And do not forget to pray that the Holy Spirit may bless what you give, and help the missionaries to teach, and the poor heathen to learn, the way of salvation by Jesus Christ. I will more
