Maid of Secrets
In this breathtaking start to a series, a secret society of young women make up Elizabeth I's most trusted royal guard. God Save the Queen--or the Maids will. Orphan Meg Fellowes makes her living picking pockets--until she steals from the wrong nobleman. Instead of rotting in prison like she expected, she's whisked away to the court of Queen Elizabeth and pressed into royal service, where she joins four other remarkable girls in the Maids of Honor, the Queen's secret society of protectors. Meg's natural abilities as a spy prove useful in this time of unrest. The Spanish Court is visiting, and with them come devious plots and hidden political motives. As threats to the kingdom begin to mount, Meg can't deny her growing attraction to one of the dashing Spanish courtiers. But it's hard to trust her heart in a place where royal formalities and masked balls hide the truth: Not everyone is who they appear to be. With danger lurking around every corner, can she stay alive--and protect the crown?

I loved this book! It had just the right amount of mystery and thrill, balanced with romance and excitement. It was as good as I'd hoped and more. There are a few things I love in books, things that usually keep me glued to the page. One is historical fiction, throwing in a little bit of history and the feel of someplace lost to time. Maid of Secrets took place in Queen Elizabeth's court. Another is mystery, preferably a murder mystery, it gives off just the right amount of eerie, intriguing and dashingly dangerous. Maid of Secrets gave us the gruesome tale of poor Marie. And romance is of course something I can never get enough of. For that, Maid of Secrets gave us Rafe. Lovely, lovely Rafe.. *coughs* Erh-hem, yes where was I? The story was fantastic and I never knew what would happen next. Each of the characters was unique and well thought out and they really brought the story to life. I loved the idea of the maids and thought each of their talents fit perfectly together. Rafe was a totally crush-worthy man and I loved any scene that had him in it. All the characters were fantastic and Meg was superb as the MC. I didn't want this book to end and I'm so glad this a series so I continue to be a part of this fantastic story. Maid of Secrets grabbed me from the get-go and that didn't ease until I'd taken in the final words, on the final page. I absolutely adored this book and cannot wait for the rest in the series! Thank you Jennifer McGowan, for writing such a fabulous tale! This is set to be one of my top book series! 5/5!show moreby Myra White
