DAUGHEITY In the thirty-fourth chapter of Ezekiel is a terrible arraignment of the shepherds of Israel who have not been faithful to their trust. Jerusalem had fallen. The temple had been destroyed. The best people of Judah had been deported to Babylon, where they were permitted to live in a colony by the River Chebar. Ezekiel was their prophet-pastor. It was his great task, first, to awaken in his countrymen a sense of their sin and the necessity of repentance; and then to encourage and enhearten them with the promise of God's continued interest in them and the eventful return to their beloved land.
