The Fellowship of the Ring, part one of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic masterpiece, first reached these shores on October 21, 1954, arriving, as C. S. Lewis proclaimed, “like lightning from a clear sky.” Fifty years and nearly one hundred million American readers later comes a beautiful new one-volume collector’s edition befitting the stature of this crown jewel of our list. The text is fully corrected under the supervision of Christopher Tolkien to meet the author’s exacting wishes and includes two large-format fold-out maps, a ribbon placemarker, gilded page edges, a color insert depicting Tolkien's own paintings of the Book of Mazarbul and exceptionally elegant and sturdy overall packaging housed within an attractive slipcase.

Our customer reviews

This came today (earlier than expected with Christmas in-between) & I'm very happy with it! I've been a LOTRs fan for years and while I have other mass market copies this is by far my favourite. It looks brilliant & you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into the design (unlike a lot of them). The cover is black with clear, good quality embossing. The gold leaf on the pages is really nice (gently reflecting light) & the maps are very good quality. Be careful when you open the map in the front cover (it is secured & you'll need to find where to separate it (easily done when you do find it). The slip case is also made to last rather than the cheap cardboard you get with some books. Overall, a must-buy for any collector & a good investment for anyone new to more
