'Chocolat was a hard act to follow but Harris has managed it in style' DAILY EXPRESS

'Who died?' I said. 'Or is it a secret?'
'My mother, Vianne Rocher.'

Seeking refuge and anonymity in the cobbled streets of Montmartre, Yanne and her two daughters live peacefully, if not happily, above their little chocolate shop. Nothing unusual marks them out; no red sachets hang by the door. The wind has stopped - at least for a while. Then into their lives blows Zozie de l'Alba, the lady with the lollipop shoes - ruthless, devious and seductive.

With everything she loves at stake, Yanne must face a difficult choice; to flee, as she has done so many times before, or to confront her most dangerous enemy...

A delicious urban fairytale, where killer shoes and Aztec myths battle it out with true love and the seductive power of chocolate * DAILY MAIL * This is Harris's best novel to date * FINANCIAL TIMES MAGAZINE * Harris is as good at portraying the agonies of motherhood as she is at evoking the scent of bitter chocolate laced with cinnamon and chilli * THE SUNDAY TIMES * If Joanne Harris didn't exist, someone would have to invent her * SUNDAY EXPRESS * Chocolat was a hard act to follow but Harris has managed it in style * DAILY EXPRESS *

About Joanne Harris

Joanne Harris's Whitbread-shortlisted Chocolat was made into an Oscar-nominated film starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp. She is the author of many other bestselling novels, including Lollipop Shoes and Peaches for Monsieur le Cure, both also featuring Vianne Rocher, as is her new novel The Strawberry Thief. She has also written acclaimed novels in such diverse genres as fantasy based on Norse myth (Runemarks, Runelight, The Gospel of Loki), and the Malbry cycle of dark psychological thrillers (Gentlemen & Players, Blueeyedboy, and Different Class).

Born in Barnsley, of an English father and a French mother, she spent fifteen years as a teacher before (somewhat reluctantly) becoming a full-time writer. In 2013, she was awarded an MBE. She lives in Yorkshire, plays bass and flute in a band first formed when she was sixteen, and works in a shed in her garden.

Our customer reviews

<p><a href="">The Lollipop Shoes</a> (known in the US as <em>The Girl With No Shadow</em>) is Joanne Harris's follow-up to her much-loved, bestselling novel <a href="">Chocolat</a>. Whilst not as sumptious or spell-binding as <a href="">Chocolat</a>, <a href="">The Lollipop Shoes</a> is still a magical and captivating story and will be hungrily swallowed by all of Harris's legion of fans.</p> <p>Extravagant by name and extravagant by nature, Zozie de l'Alba suddenly arrives into the lives of Yanne and Annie (<a href="">Chocolat</a>'s Vianne and Anouk). But, as so often in fairy tales, when a stranger arrives, they are not always everything that they seem. In Paris, in their new chocolate shop, Vianne and Anouk must protect their young daughter Rosette from threats that are very close to home. </p>show more
