Excerpt: ...Mr. Scott alludes to the views which are held by many meteorologists as to the existence of a periodicity in the changes of weather, related more or less closely to that which appears to be traceable in the sun's condition as indicated by changes in the character of his surface. The observation of these spots, which are valuable, not only in number, but in position and dimensions, was pursued systematically by Hofrath Schwabe of Dessau, who recorded them daily from 1825 almost without intermission till 1867. But we must refer the reader to this book, where, if his tastes lie in the direction of meteorology, he will find much to engage his attention and probably to excite his enquiry.
