I see, on the one hand, a hypocrite taking part in processions and supplicating saints, occupied in setting all Europe by the ears, and depriving it of its inhabitants. I sec, on the other hand, a philosopher causing (although with regret) oceans of human blood to flow. I see an avaricious people combined to ruin others for the sake of their riches. But enough! An appendix contains the text of the letters incorporated in Dr. Horn's narrative in their original French. The book is insufficiently edited, there being neither table of contents nor index, and the printing of the letters in precisely the same type as the narrative is a typographical mistake. This is one of the English-made books which are not an advance upon the American! Donnelly's "Root-Numbers," etc. The Great Cryptogramist has been lately "interviewed" in London by a correspondent of the New York World, and according to the capitalized head-lines of the report in that journal, "his secret is revealed" and "the mystery of his Baconian cryptogram made clear."
