Although Captain Adams leaves us entirely in the dark, as to the means by wbieh he obtained the information he communicates, relative to a by-no-means uninteresting, and somewhat neglected, portion of the Western coast of Africa, jet it appears to have been the result of actual investigation, but when made we know not. It has Ipng heen felt that the African Institution have been particularly unfortunate in the choice of situation at Sierra Leone fora colony, M a refage from African slavery: for toe climate is so unwholesome, that, as Capt. Adams says, going there is contidered as embarking for the next world: nor is there indeed any peculiar navigubie or mercantile advantages in the situation of Sierra Leone, should the colony be successful. These circumstances have suggested to Capt. Adams Mother point for an African Colony, which, he says, is the best adapted to 'he purpose of any place along the whole line of coast, from Cape Palmas to the River Congo, an extent of 500 leagues. The place alluded to is Malemba, and is situated between the rirer Loanga Luiza and Cabenda Hook, in latitude 5 24' sooth, and 12 20' wt of the meridian of Greenwich, and nay be justly considered as the Mont of Western Africa: --town of Malernba, which is inion of a chenoo, or chief, in a tovrn about twenty miles from called Cliiiicli1, is buih near the in of a cliff, that rices abruptly from ea-ihore to au elevation of one bunred feet, and is entirely composed of a-siy red argillaceous eunh.
