Description

Excerpt from Le Livre Rouge, or a New and Extraordinary Red-Book: Containing a List of the Pensions in England, Scotland and Ireland; Together With a View of the Receipts and Expenditure of the Public Money; Designed as a Companion to the Court Kalendar With respect to the Scotch Pension List, little can be said of it, only the rapidity of its increase since the year 1761. The number of persons then receiving pensions were nineteen: in 1797, it had increased to 185, and it now amounts to 331, exclusive of twenty four contingent pensions. The present pensions, however, are for the most part small, and about two thirds are granted to females. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
