Excerpt from Laws and Resolutions of the Medical Society of South-Carolina: Instituted at Charleston, December 24, 1789; Incorporated 10th May, 1794; With a List of the Members, and a Catalogue of the Books Annexed Art 3. - The time allowed to country members, shall be double that allowed to members in town. A rt. 4. - All Pamphlets, and periodical works, shall lie on the table ofthe Society a month, before they guinto circulation. Art. 5. - In cases where a Book or sett oi Books have been in the hands of a member during the time allowed by these rules, such member may return, and immediately take them out again, unless there has been one or more applications for such Book or sett of Books, during the time he has held them; in which case they must be returned to the Library, and lie two days before the same member can be allowed to take them out tor another period. Art 6. - Any member who detains a Book or sett of Books, longer than the term prescribed shall be fined in the sum of five cents per day for such further detention which fine the Librari an hall transmit to the Treasurer, who is hereby required to make a regular charge of the same in his account. Country members shall be allowed at the rate of one day for every ten miles between the place of his residence and Charleston, for the returning of a Book or sett of Books, after the time limit ed by the rules shall have expired.
