Description

Excerpt from La Mare au Diable Amandine lucile aurore, Baroness of Dudevant, nee Dupin, is much better known by her nom de plume of George Sand. Her descent was picturesque; she herself found it 80 interesting that she devoted more than a volume of her de ma vie to an account of it. Her father was one of Napoleon's dashing Officers; in the train of Prince Murat he gave his wife and little four-year - old daughter, the future authoress, a glimpse of Spanish palaces during the campaign of 1808. His name, Maurice Dupin, and his father's family were bourgeois, but he was a lineal descendant of Augustus II of Poland through Maurice of Saxony, the hero of F onte noy. He married the daughter of a Paris bird - fancier, called Delaborde. This blending of royal and plebeian stock had come about only after an almost unique succession of irregu larities. From her father and her father's ancestors George Sand inherited a fondness for letters and a disposition to ignore social conventions. On both sides of her family her forbears were healthy and healthy-minded. There was not a morbid fiber in them. One might Confidently have predicted for George Sand a life of storm and stress with a 'calm ending. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
