And fay not of thofe who are flain in fight for the religion of God % that they are dead; yea, they are living ': but ye do not underftand. We will furely prove you by afflifting jy?-infome meafure with fear, and hunger, and decreafe of wealth, and /c/ of lives, and fear city of fruits': but bear good tidings unto the patient; who, when a miffortune befalleth them, fay, We are God's, and unto him mall we furely return u. Upon them mail be bleffings from their Lord and mercy, and they are the rightly directed. Moreover Safa and Merwah are two of the monuments of God: whoever therefore goeth on pilgrimage to the temple of MECCA or viliteth it, it fhall be no crime in him if he compafs them both." And as for him who voluntarily performeta perfortneth a good work; verily God Is grateful and knowing. They who conceal any of the evident figns, or the direction which we have fent down, after what we have manifefted unto men in the fcripture, God (hall curfe them; and they who curfe hall curfe them."
