The Kingfisher Treasury of Stories for Six Year Olds
This entertaining collection of stories is designed to appeal to six year olds, with appropriate themes and vocabulary for them to learn as they read. The selection ranges from classic stories by Joel Chandler Harris and sensitive retellings of fairy tales and legends from around the world to short stories by the best contemporary writers for children, such as Philippa Pearce, Alison Uttley, Margaret Mahy, Leila Berg, Terry Jones and many others. The stories are illustrated throughout with humorous black-and-white drawings by Tizzie Knowles. This anthology is an ideal way of introducing young readers to new challenges as well as new authors.

About Edward Blishen
Edward & Nancy Blishen are recognised expert authorities on children's literature. In 1970, Edward Blishen won the Carnegie Medal jointly with Leon Garfield for The God Beneath the Sea. He also compiled the acclaimed anthology, Children's Classics to Read Aloud, published by Kingfisher. Together, Edward and Nancy Blishen have compiled several anthologies for Kingfisher, including The Kingfisher Treasury of Stories for Children and the age-ranged Treasury of Stories series. Edward Blishen died in 1996. Tizzie Knowles is an experienced illustrator who has worked for many different publishers, including Blackie, Scholastic and Macmillan.
