Kindness for the Sake of Love
David's words represent a pact in favour of the house of Saul, born in the mind of the king and communicated to others. That this initiative was sincere and was meant to be realized is confirmed by the fact that when Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan, was before him, David did not delay to tell him: "Don't be afraid, for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table."
