Its source is in the Ruahine Range and its outflow is into the larger Rangitikei River, which it meets close to Mangaweka. The North Island (M ori: Te Ika-a-M ui) is one of the two main islands of New Zealand, separated from the much less populous South Island by Cook Strait.
