Excerpt: ...the Prairie Fire Ordinance, wish to put on record the fact that they have received very satisfactory assurances of assistance from the Commissioner of North-West Mounted Police, in putting a stop to Prairie Fires in the future. The Commissioner having assured the Committee that he will have placed at various points along the Railroad, a sufficient force to have complete supervision over nearly the whole line of Railroad in the Territories, which together with the assurance received from Mr. Whytc, General Superintendent of the Canadian Pacific Railway that every precaution will be taken to secure protection and provent spread of fires from locomotives. They therefore believe that when such action is taken Prairie Fires will be greatly diminished if not altogether stopped in so far as the Canadian Pacific Railway is concerned. On motion of Mr. Jelly, seconded by Mr. Turriff, Resolved, That a Special Committee consisting of Messrs. Wilson, Lander, Craivford, Ross, Bedford, Sutherland, the Mover and Seconder be appointed to draft a Resolution to the Dominion Government re payment for pre-emptions and report. % On motion of Mr. Ross, seconded by Mr. Wilson, Resolved, That a Committee be appointed to prepare and report to this Council draft of a Memorial to the Dominion Government, in response to that part of His Honor's Speech respecting the future formation of the constitution of the North-West Territories; such Committee consisting of all the elected members of this Council. On motion of Mr. Crawford, the name of Mr R? d was added to the above committee.
