Marilyn loves the botanical world. So when she decides to write a "lose my 16 y/o virginity" journal, she names it Journal of an Evening Primrose, deciding as well to let flower power unfold in it daily. (Her posse thus nicknamed her JEP.) When this virgin discovers her erotic, angry self thru journaling, she starts to question her sanity. Plus her toxic mother is scathing her peace of mind. Yet her grandmother is a deeply spiritual woman (unjudgmental) and comes to the rescue with wisdom and love. Nonetheless, the scum of horny vs. anger is coming to the surface like a primitive eruption on virgin earth rapes the landscape. And all that stuff is scaring her half to death. JEP has a Mensa IQ of 162, but that in and of itself isn't helping her with the emotional part of raging hormones nor is it a saving grace with her family, but it does help her see the farside of her situation. Thus she's fuming and joking while journaling about her troubled home life because it's getting in the way of finding a hook-up, no less finding self-realization. She's smart not to want to just get messed with and jaded; so JEP steals hours into the night to write to a Muse. JEP says to her Muse, who helps her to write freely, "Yep, the reason I'm writing this journal is to make the sex I want attractive. And to sort out my feelings. Right? It's not like I haven't kissed guys, but I'm not gonna waste time chattin' about those ditsy bitsy turn-ons, like most YA books I've read do. Trust it! Like they spend a FREAKIN' hundred pages just to get to the first kiss as if we are still in a Walt Disney world. Come on people! We teens are as close to Pompeii as it gets." So lovely, confused JEP plods through the emotional upheaval with the help of Dear G, her loving champion: her grandmother. And in the end JEP's search for romance becomes her fairytale come true. And we're not talking Cinderella everafter. We're talkin' 'bout him walking into her heart Ever more
