Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. John Joseph Evers was a Major League Baseball player and manager. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1946. He was born in Troy, New York. Evers' last name originally rhymed with beavers rather than severs, but he came to accept both pronunciations. Evers, a second baseman, made it to the big leagues with the Chicago Cubs in 1902 and played for the Cubs through 1913. During those years he appeared in four World Series and won two. One of the smallest men ever to play in the major leagues, Evers reportedly weighed less than 100 pounds when he first broke in, and generally played at a weight under 130 pounds. His combative play earned him the nickname "The Crab."
