James "Tadger" Stewart was a professional footballer who played as an inside-forward and won the Football League championship with both Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle United, as well as making three appearances for England. Born in Gateshead, he started his career with Todds Nook, and then Gateshead NER, two local non-league sides where he first acquired his nickname, "Tadger," by which he was affectionately known throughout his career.
