James Dean Banner Poster
This is a detailed biography of James Dean, the archetypal screen icon who lived fast and died young. Fully illustrated with stunning black-and-white and colour images from classic movies, family archives, and private collections, it is the first biography authorized by the film star's family. Dean's story is divided into four chapters, each opening with a foreword by a major figure from the era. The first chapter follows Dean's childhood, discussing his schooldays and the people and experiences that shaped his formative years. The next chapters explore his apprenticeship into the world of acting, from bit parts in stage plays and TV commercials to the audition for his first starring role, then move behind the screen to look at Dean as a Hollywood rebel and a new type of icon, the superstar of East of Eden, Giant, and Rebel without a Cause. The final chapter looks at Dean's death and its aftermath the legend of James Dean, who helped turn the generation gap into a chasm and transformed our idea of what movie stardom could be.
