John William Scott (April 18, 1892 in Ridgeway, North Carolina - November 30, 1959 in Durham, North Carolina), is a former professional baseball player who played pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1916-1929. He would play for the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Boston Braves. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each. The goal is to score runs by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a series of four bases arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or diamond.
