About Gogo Ida Mncube

Gogo [Grandmother] Ida Mncube was born the fifth of six children, on April 7, 1923, at Colenso, KwaZulu Natal. This is where their Methodist Church Evangelist parents were stationed. All six siblings were gifted in the performing arts. It was only when Gogo Ida retired from many decades of remarkable community service at Mpumalanga Township, Hammarsdale, that she caught herself putting pen on paper one day - and writing! She hasn't stopped since. Her younger grandson knows to leave pens and notebooks on the table, each time he visits his Gogo - the writer! Gogo Ida has completed an impressive volume of work, yet to be published. She writes in isiZulu and occasionally in English. "ISIYALUYALU" includes some of her poems written in English. Her poem, 'You Can Change Your Life' appears in the book, "The Female Leader" published in the United States in 2014. It is in a chapter by Dr. Lynette Hlongwane. Although Gogo Ida discovered her writing talent in her twilight years, her profuse writing has enabled her, in a sense, to make up for lost time. "ISIYALUYALU" is Gogo Ida's first published book! Indeed, in life, nothing is ever too late! Gogo Ida is the only surviving member of her Majozi family. She has one living daughter, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Gogo Ida lives in Durban. "ISIYALUYALU" includes an extensive 'About the Author' section, written in English. Here, you will read more about this very busy young more
