'Where have you been all our lives, Mindy?' Glamour

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: comedienne, actress, obedient child of immigrant professionals and, now, writer. With a blend of witty confessions and unscientific observations, Mindy writes about everything from being a timid young chubster afraid of her own bike to living the Hollywood life, dating, friendships and planning her own funeral - all executed with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls.

Kaling’s debut is the perfect combination of memoir and hilarious, goofy lists that you’d expect from The Office star and writer-executive producer.

Review quote

[Mindy Kaling is] like Tina Fey's cool little sister. Or perhaps... the next Nora Ephron. * The New York Times * Kaling doles out neurotic charm and hilarious everywoman musings. * Elle * Kaling's debut is the perfect combination of memoir and hilarious, goofy lists that you'd expect from The Office star and writer-executive producer. * * Reading her words is like listening to a likably gabby friend chatter happily over generously poured glasses of red wine. * Washington Post *

Fantastic read, especially for fans of The Office and The Mindy more
by Laura Shelley
You might know Mindy Kaling from The Office. Maybe from her show The Mindy Project. You could be an admirer of her acting, her writing, or a magical combination of both. Maybe she??????¢??s your best friend (in your mind, of course.) But regardless of the why, you know Mindy. That same loving self-deprecating comedy writer wrote a memoir, just for you. It??????¢??s filled with essays detailing her childhood, her ascent into the world of comedy writing, and her battle to make it in Hollywood. Of course it wouldn??????¢??t be Mindy without being sprinkled with humor and romance tips throughout the way. My Thoughts: This is such a fun read. Mindy has mastered the art of weaving serious and funny together. I laughed out loud more times than countable on my hands. Mindy??????¢??s voice couldn??????¢??t be more present in her writing. True to what she does best, her memoir is charmingly self-depreciating and relatable. It doesn??????¢??t faze her to be the butt of a joke. It never feels like she??????¢??s above you or lecturing you. Her writing is so casual and conversational that it felt like the two of us were sitting in a room (probably drinking wine), chatting about her life. I felt like her best friend. Mindy, if you ever stumble upon this and would actually like to be best friends, I??????¢??m totally down. Anyway??????¢???????¦she doesn??????¢??t paint her road to success as a journey filled with rainbows and sunshine magically shooting out her ass. She had to work for everything she has now. She failed and tried again. When one of my best friends found out I had actually gotten around to reading the book, she was past excited (like cue a neighborhood parade for no apparent reason other than the fact that I read a book). She sent me a text, quoting the book. I recognized it immediately. It??????¢??s underlined and starred in my copy too. ??????¢??One friend with whom you have a lot in common is better than three with whom you struggle to find things to talk about.??????¢?? Just melt my sentimental heart now. Anyway, if you??????¢??re looking for a book to add to your summer wrap up list, stick this one on the pile. It??????¢??s not dense or written with complex language. It??????¢??s the perfect book to get you out of a reading slump too. Also because it??????¢??s written in essay form, it??????¢??s the perfect book to pick up if you only have a few minutes to read. You can read one essays and put it down at a natural stopping point. So go become best friends with Mindy inside your head more

I did because the book was so addictive. I came to work only annoyed that I didn't bring the book with me so I can finish reading. You will actually get awesome advice and towards the mid part of the book you actually want to be her friend. Loved it!show more
