The members of the Iowa State Highway Commission, J. V. Holden of Scranton, chairman Dean A. Marston of Ames and H. C. Bearden of Mt. Ayr., were in conference here Oct. 12. Mr. Eichenger, of the highway commission, accompanied the members on a visit to Little Wall lake. Prof. F. D. Paine of the Electrical Engineering department has established a one hour required lecture course. He gives the following reasons for establishing the course: The first and main reason was based 011 the fact that the electrical engineering students do not have any personal contact with the division until they become juniors. The purpose of this course is to get the sophomore E. E. students i11 touch with the work their department is doing. In the second place, most of the electrical engineering students do not have much of an idea as to what they want to do when they graduate. Fourthly, the large engineering concerns are forwarding a movement to pick out men during the freshman and sophomore years, who arc fitted to become engineers, before they finish the course.
