Cinder meets The Dark Knight in this riveting sequel to the darkly suspenseful, reimagined superhero story The Brokenhearted.

Since Gavin's death, Anthem has tried to forget the heartache and betrayal, to feel normal once more. She doesn't want to be the crime-fighting vigilante that Bedlam City needs. She just wants to go to school, practice ballet, and help nurse Ford back to health. But while he is recovering from his life-saving surgery, the Ford she knew is slipping away.

Then a new subversive group, whose mysterious leader calls himself "the Invisible," starts attacking the North Side. The danger has never been closer to home, and Anthem can't sit idly by. Using her new strength, she begins to fight back, and be the hero she was meant to be. Soon, she is the Invisible's most sought-after enemy, and he is using everything at his disposal to have her found and captured. Will Anthem survive the biggest fight of her life?

The most dangerous enemy is the one you can't see. . . .

After a perilous accident that literally stopped her heart, Anthem Fleet was left with a jagged scar down the front of her chest--and a strength she is still learning to control. Her new powers helped her avenge the death of the boy she loved and led her deep into Bedlam City's dark underbelly, where she fought a network of shadowy criminals. But Anthem doesn't want to be the crime-fighting vigilante that Bedlam needs. She just wants to go to school, practice ballet, and help nurse Ford, her friend and partner, back to health.

But when a mysterious group called the Invisible starts attacking the privileged North Siders, Anthem's whole world is thrown into chaos. Invisible's threats seem like harmless pranks at first, but as their demands escalate, people start to die. Now Anthem must step up and be the hero that the city needs, or Bedlam will fall . . . once and for all.

In the riveting sequel to the critically acclaimed The Brokenhearted, reimagined superhero Anthem Fleet takes on a powerful new villain and makes startling revelations about her past that will change her forever.

Our customer reviews

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to HarperCollins and Edelweiss.) This is the second book in the ‘Brokenhearted’ series. This was an okay story, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first one. Anthem was an okay character in this, but she still made some very silly decisions. Once again she was running around playing super-hero with no disguise of any kind, relying on random people to conceal her identify, and having no problems leaving video evidence, DNA, and fingerprints at crime scenes. Will she never learn? The storyline in this was okay, although I felt like it didn’t really get interesting until the 40% mark. There were a couple of twists that I didn’t see coming, and I was quite shocked by one twist that we got at the end, but between the twists and action scenes, the rest of the story was a little dull. There wasn’t really much romance in this one to be honest. The ending was okay, and again, I liked the twist that we discovered. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first though, it just felt a bit lacking for me. Overall; okay story, but not as good as the first. 6.5 out of more
